Now On YouTube - Just The Start

Taking full
advantage of the wealth of new information tools the internet has created,
HindlePower is utilizing the popular web site YouTube to bring our customers slick instructional videos on how to use
our industrial battery chargers. Our Product Specialist Matt

HindlePower has always gone above and beyond to provide our customers with the
best documented information on how to sell, install, operate, and service our

www.ATSeries.net Site Update
Our sister
site has
recently undergone some fantastic changes. We have updated the home
page to allow users to instantly jump to specific areas of interest.
We made sure all PDF files of UNBRANDED operating manuals and standard drawings for the AT10.1 and AT30 Series battery chargers were
up-to-date. We also posted a number of new documents and
drawings which support the versatile AT Series products.
These files now match the revisions of the latest files
stored at the HindlePower office here in Easton, and
mirrored in the Standard Documentation interface of this web site. We expanded www.ATSeries.net to now include standard documentation for Electrical
Features and Options, Mechanical
Options and Accessories, Service
Instructions, Application
Notes, and other Support
Documentation. Check it out and come back often to www.ATSeries.net!

The
birth
of ATSeries.net actually occurred in September of 2005 (see our archived
news section for details) when all AT10.1 and AT30 Series battery chargers began shipping with a disposable Quick
Setup Sheet affixed on top of the front instrument panel. When designing the master artwork for
this now highly-praised setup
sheet, we wanted to point ALL users of AT Series battery chargers toward
additional resources which would support their understanding, operation
and service of the unit. Thus, the ATSeries.net web site was born.
ATSeries.net has been an information archive for
product operating manuals and standard drawings for the industry's
most accepted and reliable microprocessor-controlled utility battery
charger. Moreover, all of the documentation and information posted
on the site, as well as the site interface itself, is UNBRANDED.
Therefore, whether you are a battery manufacturer which purchases our
chargers private-labeled, an OEM which repackages our manufactured units
into larger systems, a direct distributor of HindlePower-branded
product, or even an end-user in the field, ATSeries.net is now your source for free AT Series charger information 24
hours a
day, seven days a week.
In the
future, we plan to include sales tools such as product specifications
and even UNBRANDED sales literature. 3rd party agency approvals and frequently asked questions
(FAQs) on ATSeries.net are also in the works. Finally, more standard instructions of the
wide variety of options and accessories compatible with the AT10.1 and AT30 Series battery chargers will be
posted to the site in the months to come. As the ultimate user of
the site, please let us know what YOU would
like to see posted on ATSeries.net.

Online SUPPORT Update
prepared by Michael
C. Rupprecht - Engineering Designer
We have
recently updated and expanded the downloadable content of the HindlePower web site. Many of the questions and concerns our customers and end
users have regarding our industrial battery chargers, dc power supplies,
and dc systems in general can be answered with the wide variety
documentation available on this web site. We encourage viewers to
explore the Support Section of our site, which features seven (7)
pull down tabs which link you to specific pages detailing customer and
user support. These include Technical
Service, Field Service, Return
Material Authorization (RMA), Technical
FAQs, Standard Documentation, Service Instructions / Application
Notes, and Continuous Improvement.
Technical
Service
Technical
Service has been updated to feature no less than four (4) phone
extensions of specialists who will help answer any questions you may
have regarding our products. Please note that if you have an
application question regarding the future use of our
products in a proposed system, we suggest you refer to our Application Engineering page for Sales and Product Specialists. Please refer to the Technical
Service contacts for questions referring to specific installed
product.
Field
Service
Likewise, Field
Service has been updated to feature contact information for the
same four (4) talented individuals, who will help you with such
questions. These redundant contacts will help ensure you will
speak to a live person when required. In the extreme case where
none of these specialists are available, please dial zero (0) to return
to the operator. We will track down a technician to assist your
call, which of course is of great importance to us.
Return
Material Authorization (RMA)
Our Return
Material Authorization (RMA) page remains unchanged.
However, our product quality, RMA policies, and RMA practices make dealing with HindlePower a confidence-building experience. We
stand by our products absolutely, and have received countless customer
kudos over the years...even when it comes to the unfortunate and rare occasion that a charger needs to be sent back to the factory for repair.
Technical
FAQs
The Technical
FAQs page of our web site has received the most attention
recently. We have modified the interface to allow users to more
easily find and jump to the subject they are interested in. Also
added are the Blocking Diode and NEMA/IP Enclosure Type FAQs.
Check it out!
Standard
Documentation
Standard
Documentation remains unchanged, but continues hold the largest
collection of downloadable content, including operating manuals, outline
drawings, internal component layouts, electrical
schematics, wiring diagrams, and other detail drawings.
Service
Instructions
Updating
the Technical Technical FAQs page lead us
to reference the Application Notes listed on our Service
Instructions page. We have now split the collection of
documents even further, into seven (7) different, and more specific
categories. Here you will find a number of helpful documents to aid in the service
of HindlePower-manufactured battery chargers. Please note that all
of these Application Notes and Service Instructions are in fact unbranded. Therefore, whether you are a battery manufacturer which purchases
our private-labeled products, an OEM which repackages our units
into larger systems, a direct distributor of HindlePower-branded
product, or an end-user in the field, you can freely download and use
these documents 24 hours a
day, seven days a week.
Continuous
Improvement
The Continuous
Improvement page remains unchanged, but we are open to
suggestions to help bring our customers and end users into the process
by which our existing products and services are improved. This
"ownership" concept to the design and redesign of our products
has lead to a number of great partnerships, resulting in
"win-win" situations for both the manufacturer and the
ultimate user.

Art
Salander Delivers at Battcon
2009®
prepared by Art
Salander - Business Development, Applications Engineering
During Battcon
2009® I presented a paper covering the most common question I am asked...
How
do I size a battery charger?
This
question is so common that years ago I had the formula pre-printed onto
the obverse side of all of my business cards so I did not have to keep
writing it there. Credit for the inspiration to print the formula
on my card goes to the late Rick Johnson who had an illustrious career
at GE Power Systems.
The
purpose of the presentation is to ensure that certain basics are
understood by anyone desiring to provide a battery charger for a typical
utility application. Such applications would include, but not be
limited to switchgear, substation, engine start, microwave and other
related applications.
On
Wednesday morning, on the last day of Battcon
2009® we had a very respectable showing for the paper and it was very well
received. I presented on a panel with three other participants and
I received the most attention in terms of comments and questions from
the audience. I was told that my presentation was a huge success
and I received many compliments.
Since this
information is useful to all of our customers we have posted online both
the paper [JF5045-00] and the PowerPoint presentation [ASBattcon2009.ppt]
for your use. And, if you ask me...I might just repeat the
performance for you and our customers. This can be done either
remotely or in person.
There will
be another paper at Battcon
2010® next year. If you have any topic suggestions for me, please let me
know. Thanks and...

HindlePower
at Battcon
2009®
We are
pleased to announce that HindlePower, Inc. will be
exhibiting at the 13th annual Battcon®
2009 International Stationary Battery Conference and Trade Show to be held at the Gaylord Palms Resort in Orlando, FL on April 27
through April 29, 2009.
Battcon® is a three day, non-commercial, technical event for storage battery users from a broad
range of industries. It is the premier conference for end-users,
technologists, and manufacturers.
The event features a two day trade show packed with storage power related
vendors, plus optional seminars with CEU's awarded.
Users,
manufacturers of batteries and battery test equipment, installers,
researchers, and standards and safety experts attend the conference to
learn about and discuss the latest industry developments.
This year, Art Salander, who heads HindlePower’s
business development, will be presenting a paper entitled:
Proper
Charger Sizing For Utility/Stationary Battery Chargers
Here is a
brief abstract of Art’s presentation as it appears on the Battcon® web site (http://www.battcon.com/Schedule.htm):
In
these days of energy conservation, many applications seem to allow for
over sizing of the battery charger. Over-sizing is wasteful in the
long run and results in a higher initial cost. The purpose of this
presentation is to help ensure that utility battery chargers are
properly sized.
We will
also be showcasing our AT10.1 Series single
phase microprocessor-controlled battery charger, AT30
Series three phase microprocessor-controlled battery charger, AT-DC
Series distribution panel, Universal Maintenance
Charger (UMC), and Single Cell Charger.
If you are
planning on attending Battcon®
2009, please stop by our booth to say hello. We look
forward to seeing you in Orlando at The Stationary Battery Conference
that Keeps You Advancing!

AT
Series Microprocessor Based Battery Chargers... Simply Powerful,
Powerfully Simple
prepared by Art
Salander - Business Development, Applications Engineering
The
HindlePower AT Series utility battery charger product has always been
praised for its ability to be the easiest to use and the most reliable
utility battery charger on the market today. As such we are always
looking for new ways increase reliability, improve functionality, and
add features, while remaining easy to use.
Once
again, the design team at HindlePower has hit a home run!
Our clever design
engineers managed to add an integral forced load share function to the
universal AT Series Main Control Card, and simultaneously update that
card to include an option for latching relays.
Forced Load Sharing
Forced load sharing functionality is now featured in all single (AT10.1)
and three phase (AT30) AT Series battery
chargers currently shipping. The feature is activated by merely
adding to the order, and then installing a signal interconnection
cable. Instead of adding the forced load sharing option to
individual units, we now just require the additional of a very
economical, specialized cable to link the two chargers together.
This is a big savings to the customer, but the benefits are even greater
than just cost reduction.
Key
benefits of the new forced load share feature are:
-
The
feature functionality exists within all newly shipped AT Series
battery chargers.
-
No
tuning is required for field installation. The forced load
sharing feature is not unique to any enclosure style or output
rating. If you activate the forced load sharing feature, by
installing the interconnecting cable, load share action will
occur. Furthermore, if either of the two (2) chargers ceases
output, the remaining charger will pick up the full load.
-
Forced
Load Sharing is a true aftermarket feature that may be added at any
time after a charger is installed.
A newly
revised single page set
of instructions (JA5054-00)
for the AT Series forced load sharing option (EJ5126-XX) is available for download.
To select the forced load sharing feature (by part number) to ship with
your AT Series battery charger, select one of the options from the
following list:
-
EJ5126-00
(features 15ft/7.09m interconnection cable and instructions)
-
EJ5126-01
(features 25ft/11.8m interconnection cable and instructions)
-
EJ5126-02
(features 50ft/23.6m interconnection cable and instructions)
Latching
Alarm Relays
All AT10.1 and AT30 battery chargers now ship with the ability for users to choose either
latching or self-clearing relays. This now positions the AT Series
products to meet almost every major domestic and international
specification, governing the use of utility and industrial battery
chargers.
The
HindlePower Latching Alarm Relay Advantage!
The AT Series interface boast the simplest form of alarm relay
management in the industry. Unlike many of our competitors whose
alarm system is both complicated and tedious, the HindlePower AT Series
product is extremely easy to operate. We created a system that is
both simple to use, and extremely reliable. Again, no hidden menus
and no secret codes to operate the unit.
Here's
How It Works...
-
For
the standard alarm indicator lights and summary alarm contacts
(TB3), you simply change a jumper on the Main Control pc board (A1)
to enable alarm/relay latching. With that jumper in the enable
position, the summary alarm relay latches after the fixed 30 second
time delay. The relay remains latched along with the relevant
indicator lamp(s), until released by the operator. Depressing
and holding the UP arrow key releases the latched alarm.
-
For
the optional Auxiliary Alarm Relays, the procedure is similar.
However, you may also select specific alarm relays to either latch
or self-clear. Selection is by means of a simple DIP switch on
the Auxiliary Alarm Relay pc board (A5).
-
Detailed
instructions, available for download, for the AT Series latching
alarms will follow shortly.
The
management and staff of HindlePower are passionate about creating
the best utility battery charger products possible. The
improvements stated here are just a few of the many advances in both
operation and quality we have developed over the years. We
appreciate the input of all of our customers in helping us to continue
to improve and evolve the product further.
For more
information about these advances, and any other aspects of HindlePower
products or services, please contact either myself directly or any
member of our sales department.

An Update on HindlePower 3rd Party Certifications
prepared by Art
Salander - Business Development, Applications Engineering
The quagmire associated with 3rd party certifications can be very confusing.
Many people are in doubt about what it really means to test a product and provide a 3rd party certification.
Most Americans will request a UL listing without realizing that UL is an independent private company formed to provide fire safety standards for products manufactured in the United States.
UL is not a government agency and has no official powers to regulate product merchantability, nor is it a preferred resource by OSHA.
As of this writing,
OSHA is an agency of the US Government is tasked with certifying independent testing laboratories in the USA for the purpose of providing 3rd party certifications.
OSHA currently lists 17 laboratories as NRTL (NRTL – National Recognized Testing Laboratory).
You may see the current list of NRTLs at
http://www.osha.gov/dts/otpca/nrtl.
The NRTL Program recognizes private sector organizations as NRTLs, and recognition signifies that an organization has met the necessary qualifications specified in the regulations for the
program. The NRTL determines that specific equipment and materials ("products") meet consensus-based standards of safety to provide the assurance, required by OSHA, and that these products are safe for use.
For many years HindlePower has used both CSA and UL for its safety testing.
In recent times we have found said use to be redundant and since most of our safety testing has been performed through CSA, we have decided to drop any past and future testing with UL.
This is a difficult, but no less important decision. CSA is also a participant in OSHA’s “Cooperative Arrangement between the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Standards Council of Canada
(SCC)”.
This allows us to use a single point firm to provide both our Canadian and US domestic 3rd party certification thereby eliminating any duplication.
While we understand that certain customers who specifically request a “UL Listing” may find this decision disappointing, we have no intention of reducing the quality or safety of our products by this decision.
Further, we are fully ensuring that our products meet the demands of the USA by maintaining an OSHA required association with a bona-fide
NRTL.
The current CSA-NRTL/C labeling of our products to UL1012/1564 is fully endorsed by OSHA and the NRTL program whether performed by UL or any other OSHA
NRTL.

AT
Series And SCR/SCRF Series
prepared by Art
Salander - Business Development, Applications Engineering
The AT
Series and SCR/SCRF Series industrial battery chargers and have a lot in common.
While it is true they have different names, and the AT Series is a newer design,
it is important to understand the similarities so we can truly illustrate the differences.
Both product lines are of Silicon-Controlled Rectifier (SCR) design! Even though we call the SCR/SCRF
Series the "SCR/SCRF" and the AT Series the "AT", it is important to note that the term
"AT" stands for "Advanced Technology" SCR design.
The AT Series is the natural progression for the SCR technology product.
It was HITRAN Power
Systems that bore the concept of using SCR technology in the mid 1970s as a utility charger technique.
At that time, the paradigm was to use either magnetic-amplified techniques or
ferro-resonant techniques.
Those techniques, not unlike SCR, are just merely different ways of controlling output current.
We selected the Silicon-Controlled
Rectifier ( SCR) because we saw it as the future for lower cost and more flexibility. And, we were right.
Today, every competitor that HindlePower faces is now offering their mimic version of the HindlePower
SCR-based battery chargers as an alternative to either ferro or mag-amp designs in their product lines. They have waited as long as 30 years, only to
enter the market recently.
Since the SCR/SCRF
Series products were first introduced by
HindlePower
(then
HITRAN Power Systems) in the mid 1970s, many improvements and advances have become available.
Fortunately, we still have many customers who prefer the traditional SCR/SCRF
Series design, and rightfully so. The product is a well-made device, with extensive attention to detail.
The SCR/SCRF Series product line has a unique distinction of being able to accommodate a wide range of options, inputs, outputs and add-ons, not easily accommodated by the newer AT series product.
In contrast, the AT
Series products offer a customer a unique blend of common desired options at a cost
and lead time of manufacturing far lower than its SCR/SCRF Series predecessor.
Additionally, we were able to add in safety features, safety shields, switchboard wire, on-line adjustments, standard breakers, and
UL & CSA-NRTL/C listings, while keeping the selling price low and the delivery time short.
Perhaps the biggest advantage of using AT Series technology is ease of operation.
The first AT10 battery charger (1PH 6-25 Adc) was introduced at a time when there was a tremendous resistance to electronic controls.
Most industry experience up to that point with these controls was not good.
Electronic, microprocessor controls were difficult to use, required secret codes, and possessed hidden menus that could confound the most knowledgeable operator.
Sadly, much of that is still true today.
We wanted to create a product that had all the benefits of microprocessor control,
while maintaining the ease of use of an analog device. The AT
Series, which is the ultimate incarnation of the original AT10 design, is a true success story in this regard.
The AT10.1 Group I, AT10.1 Group II and AT30 Series battery chargers are
extremely easy to use and to understand, very much mimicking the analog type product in its operation.
Its display requires no interpretation, has no hidden menus, and does not require any secret codes to operate. Even security is accomplished using a jumper on the inside of the front panel.

AT
Series Battery Charger Feature Overview - Remote Sensing
prepared by Art
Salander - Business Development, Applications Engineering
I recently
made a sales call, when the customer remarked, "Wouldn't it
be terrific if my battery charger would actually read voltage at the
battery terminals and correct for the voltage drop between the charger
and battery?"
The great
news is that AT Series Battery Chargers already do that. All
AT10.1 Group I, Group II and AT30 Series Battery Charger are equipped
with a Remote Sensing feature. This is a key selling point for the
AT Series products, and was designed into the original AT10 Battery
Charger back in 1996. Where most users must measure voltage at the
battery terminals to ensure proper float and equalize voltage settings,
users of the AT Series do not have to do that.
Using
the Remote Sensing feature is easy. There are two (2) positive and
negative stud terminals located on every AT Series I/O panel, used
exclusively for Remote Sense. Just move the charger's two (2)
internal sense leads from the normal dc output terminals (TB1+/-) to the
Remote Sense terminals. Wire #s vary from product line.
Next, run a user-supplied twisted pair of wire to the battery terminals
and... viola (excuse my French)! You are monitoring
battery terminal voltage, and compensating for it as well. See
figure to right.
Advantages
of Using AT Series Remote Sense:
-
1)
Remote error sensing compensates for any voltage drop between the
charger and battery, to ensure proper float and equalize voltages.
-
2) The
charger's metering will monitor the actual battery terminal voltage
when remote Sensing is used.
-
3)
There is an Error Code E
06 which
constantly monitors the Remote Sensing circuit.
-
4) All
AT Series Battery Chargers offer Remote Sensing, included at no
extra charge.
For a
greater explanation of this feature, see Section 1.9 in any of
the three (3) AT Series Operating and Service
Instructions. We
plan to post more AT Series Battery Charger Feature Overviews in the
months to come. Visit us again soon!

AT30
Documentation Update
The
AT30 Series microprocessor-controlled
float battery charger, introduced in April of 2004, is the three-phase
input variant of our long-established AT10.1
product line. We specifically designed the font panel controls,
with no hidden menu, of the original AT10 products to be easy to
operate. This feature was so well-received in the industry, we
felt compelled to carry over this user interface when designing the
AT10.1 Group II (30-100 Adc) and now AT30 (25-1,000 Adc) battery
chargers. Over the past several months, we have expanded the scope
of the AT30 product line, improved design features, finalized physical
layouts and enclosure breakdowns, and received formal agency approvals
for the most popular models. These realities, in addition to
industry requests that the AT30 literature mimic the popular layout of
the AT10.1 Series literature, have prompted us to reformat and update
the former. We are proud to release the Rev. 2 version of
the AT30 Series Microprocessor-Controlled Float Battery Charger sales
brochure (JF5018-00).
The information listed in this document reflects the most up-to-date
specifications of the AT30 product line. Please feel free to
download a low-resolution PDF file of this document for your
records. If you wish to obtain a glossy finish hardcopy of our
revised AT30 literature to update your HindlePower sales binder, please
contact Deborah
Behler, our Sales and Marketing Coordinator. She will
process an order to have as many copies of our sales literature sent out
to you as soon as possible.
In
addition to the sales brochure, we have also revised the HindlePower
AT30 Operating and Service Instruction Manual (JA5011-03).
This new revision contains important notes about external ac and dc
power cabling, three error codes specific to the AT30, an enhanced
trouble-shooting table, a clearer replacement parts table, and
finally...updated standard drawings. Full size (11"x17")
PDF files of these new AT30 standard
drawings can be downloaded in their entirety from our support

Custom
Battery Charger Drawing Transmittals Go Paperless
HindlePower has and will continue to embrace new technologies and progressive business practices.
Therefore, in an effort to improve the timely and accurate processing of custom
approval/record drawings and documentation for its line of industrial battery chargers, HindlePower announces the implementation of its exclusive e-file transmittal program.
In the past, when custom drawings were transmitted to customers and/or users of HindlePower-manufactured battery chargers, we have initially e-mailed electronic copies of required documentation saved in Adobe Acrobat (PDF)
format, and when requested, AutoCAD R14 (DWG) format. This initial e-file transmittal would consist of a set of customized drawings (approval, advanced, record, final as-built, etc.), parts data package report per manufacturer's switchboard, operating manual, sales brochure (when applicable), any other required documentation, and a transmittal cover sheet.
The e-file transmittal would then be followed by a shipment via U.S. Mail of paper hardcopies of the
drawings, parts data package, transmittal cover sheet, and a packing slip listing the manufacturer's part number of the documentation delivered.
Hardcopy operating manuals and sales brochures would not be supplied unless requested by part number on purchase orders.
Our new practice will eliminate the shipment of paper hardcopies, which we feel is an antiquated, slow, expensive, and most often, unnecessary step.
The exclusive e-file transmittal will consist of all the aforementioned supplied documentation, plus an e-file of the packing slip, saved in Adobe Acrobat (PDF) format. The success of this new process will be helped immensely, when our customers list names and e-mail addresses of documentation recipients on their purchase orders.
Some have already been doing so and we thank you for this.
We understand this new process may not be acceptable to all documentation recipients. Therefore if any of our customers and/or end-users insist paper hardcopies be mailed to them, we will continue to do so on an
job-by-job basis, when specifically requested on purchase orders. All new e-file transmittals will specifically note that paper hardcopies of supplied documentation are in fact available if required.
The elimination of shipment of paper hardcopies will free our engineering staff from clerical work so they can concentrate their efforts on delivering further documentation ahead of schedule.
We hope you find our exclusive e-file transmittal program agreeable.
Please feel free to reach Michael
C. Rupprecht if you have any questions or suggestions regarding this progressive change in HindlePower document and drawings transmittal.

Charger Documentation Update
Our friend
Dave Scroggins at Alcad Standby Batteries recently helped us discover a
minor flaw on the HindlePower web site. It seems he was looking
for service instructions on how to replace the AT Series main control pc
board for a unit in the field. After reviewing this request, we
saw that our current document was out-of-date, due to the new
AT10.1/AT30 product configurations. We followed up his request by
creating a new service instruction (JD5012-00)
which covers the current AT Series product, and revising the old
document (JA0087-00)
to clarify that it should only be used for older AT10 product.
Thanks Dave.

Although launched in May of 2004, we dug into our engineering

On-Time Delivery Rates At Record Levels
If you are
concerned about getting your battery charger orders shipped on
time...rest easy. HindlePower's on-time delivery rate is currently
running at 96%.
Our orders ship at an average of -4 days late. No, that is
NOT a misprint. We average minus four days late, or to say it
another way, we are averaging four days early
on our scheduled ship dates! During a rare occurrence when an
order may not ship on time, HindlePower will take an honest, proactive
stance. We contact our customers first, about potential delays,
while doing everything within our (000000 the pun) POWER
to meet scheduled delivery dates.
HindlePower
is keenly aware that industry expectations for suppliers have changed,
perhaps permanently, due to natural disasters, deregulation and tight
budgets. Rather than fall behind to competition, we have lead the
way by changing the way we operate to meet these new challenges.
Short lead times on new orders, and moreover, timely delivery of battery
charger products on site is of vital importance to the critical start-up
procedures required by our customers. HindlePower is dedicated to
maintaining our unprecedented level of on-time delivery. So sleep
well, your charger will get there...and

www.ATSeries.net
Press Release
In an
effort to supply our private-labeling partners with the best tools
available to help quote, sell, order, install, operate and service
HindlePower-manufactured battery chargers, we have launched the ATSeries.net
web site. Although only in its infancy, we hope this new site
(which we consider a sister site to our company home page), will allow
ALL our customers to freely access concise information on the AT10.1 and
AT30 Series battery chargers. Currently, ATSeries.net
is an information archive for operating manuals and standard drawings for the industry's
most accepted and reliable microprocessor-controlled utility battery
charger. Moreover, all of the documentation and information posted
on this new site, as well as the site interface itself, is UNBRANDED.
Therefore, whether you are a battery manufacturer which purchases our private-labeled chargers, an OEM which repackages our manufactured units
into larger systems, a direct distributor of HindlePower branded
product, or an end-user in the field, ATSeries.net
is now your source for free AT Series charger information 24-hours a
day, seven days a week.
The birth
of this web site actually occurred in early September of 2005, when all AT
Series battery chargers began shipping with a disposable Quick
Setup Sheet
affixed on top of the front instrument panel. Please see the archived
news from September of 2005 for details on
the Quick
Setup Sheet. When designing the master artwork for the setup
sheet, we wanted to point users of AT Series battery chargers toward
additional resources which would complete their experience with the unit. To keep costs at a minimum, we decided
it was best to purchase ONE version of the quick setup sheet, applicable
to all AT10.1 and AT30 Series battery chargers, that would point to ONE
web site for further AT Series charger information. Thus, the ATSeries.net
web site was born.
After
registering the domain, we posted a user-friendly interface, similar to
the one in the HindlePower Standard
Documentation section. We plan have to expand upon the
site to include sales tools, unbranded product literature, service
instructions and frequently asked questions on the AT Series battery
chargers. As the ultimate user, please let us know what YOU would
like to see posted on ATSeries.net.

DNP
Certification for AT Series Communication
The AT
Series Communications Module allows users to remotely monitor
and control an AT10.1 or AT30 Series microprocessor-controlled battery
charger via computer. Remotely accessible features of the AT
Series front panel include alarm set points, output voltage and current
limit parameters. This option is compatible with the industry's
two most commonly used SCADA
(Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) network protocols, Modbus
and
DNP3
(Distributed Network
Protocol).
To
ensure full compliance with DNP3
Level 2,
HindlePower assigned an independent electrical component test laboratory
to evaluate and test the interface pc board of our communications
module. The pc board has successfully passed all requirements of
the DNP3-2003 Intelligent Electronic Device Certification Procedure (Ver.
2.3). Accordingly, we have been issued a DNP
Certificate of Conformance, which is available to our customers
as a downloadable PDF file.
DNP3 is
based on the IEC 870-5 requirements and has been designed to meet
current and future North American protocol standards for telecontrol
applications. DNP3 offers flexibility and functionality to the
already conventional communications protocol, while providing a very
efficient layered protocol that ensures high data integrity. Users
can expect many benefits from this protocol, which is why the AT Series
Communications Module is such a successful addition to the At10.1 and
AT30 Series Battery Chargers.
This certification
serves as an endorsement of HindlePower's AT Series products, meeting
the industry's highest standards for quality and safety worldwide.

HindlePower Hosts
the 4th Annual Star Awards
For
the past four years at our
holiday party, we have recognized company excellence and leadership with the HindlePower Star Awards
Program. In latter weeks of November, employees voted for their peers in the following categories: Rising Star, Unsung Hero, Best Idea, Most Clean and Organized, Most Passionate, Most Can-Do Attitude, Exceptional Merit, and Employee of the Year.
Each year some of the categories are changed so every employee has a chance to win a Star Award.
Four nominees are chosen from each category and are recognized during the awards presentation.
In many instances, the winner has captured the award by only one vote, and recognition of the nominees is just as important.
Emulating the annual Academy Awards for motion pictures, the HindlePower Star Awards
Program showcases wonderful spirit, talented presentations, gracious acceptance
speeches...and a lot of humor. Almost every employee participates in the program as a presenter, nominee, or winner. This year our most honorary award was given to
William K. Bennett as Employee of the Year.
In addition, we honored Manuel Rameriz for his decades of service with the HindlePower Lifetime Achievement Award.
Congratulations to all the winners and have a great holiday from all of us at

SCR/SCRF
Series 250A Chargers Supplied in Different Enclosures
New design
and manufacturing realities have prompted us to change the size of the
standard enclosures for two models of the three phase input SCR/SCRF
Series battery chargers. In the past, we have indicated that the 24Vdc-250Adc
model is supplied in our Style-3 enclosure. New size requirements
of the internal components have forced us to change the design of this
charger to be built in the slightly larger Style-4 enclosure. On a
more positive note, the 130Vdc-250Adc model has until now been supplied
in our largest Style-5 enclosure. As of November 1, 2005 all new
orders for this unit will be supplied in the smaller Style-4
enclosure. The design of the 48Vdc-250Adc SCR/SCRF Series battery
charger remains unchanged, and is likewise supplied in the Style-4
enclosure (as usual).
We have
updated the online version of our SCR/SCRF Series Float Battery Charger
Sales Brochure (JF5010-00)
to reflect these two changes. Likewise, in the Standard Drawings
Section of our web site we have updated the three phase SCR/SCRF Series enclosure
matrix. Available on this page are a downloadable outline
drawing (JE0464-00)
and internal component layout drawing (JE0244-00)
of the Style-4 enclosure. We understand that a significant number
of product literature is currently in circulation with out-of-date
enclosure size information. Therefore we have taken steps to
ensure our customers are made aware of these new realities in the SCR/SCRF
Series battery charger line. All new orders for 24Vdc-250Adc units
will be followed up with a notification to our customer that the charger
will be supplied in a slightly larger enclosure. Likewise, all new
orders for 130Vdc-250Adc units will be followed up with a notification
that the charger will be supplied in a slightly smaller enclosure.
We hope this proactive stance will eliminate any problems on-site where
installation footprints are an issue.

AT
Series Forced Load Sharing Option Now Available
Adding
to an already feature-rich product line, HindlePower is pleased to
announce that the Forced Load Sharing option for parallel operation is now available for the
AT10.1 and AT30 Series of microprocessor-controlled battery chargers.
The principle of operation of the option is based on the ability to sense
the current
furnished by each of two chargers and to electronically force the charger
currents to be equal within a small percentage. The AT Series
Forced Load Sharing option allows two chargers to share a load equally
in a parallel application.
One of the chargers is designated as
the "primary" and controls the other "secondary" charger. The benefit of this option is the
degree of redundancy it provides, enhancing overall system
reliability. If either charger is shut down or becomes
inoperative, the other charger will assume the total load up to its
current limit rating. Installation and Operating Instructions (JA5054-00)
for the AT Series Forced Load Share option is available for
download. For more information, please contact your authorized

AT30
CSA-NRTL/C Certification Update
Back
in June, we announced that certain units of the AT30 Series
microprocessor-controlled battery chargers had passed CSA-NRTL/C test
requirements. We also reported that formal certification for these
units would follow. That time has arrived. Our formal
certification report is on file and we are now applying CSA-NRTL/C
labels to all AT30 battery chargers housed in Style-5018
and Style-5030 enclosures.
Comprehensive design data for larger AT30 models (housed in the new
Style-5031 and Style-5034 enclosures) is not currently ready for CSA
testing. Although these units are not CSA-NRTL/C listed, they are
designed and manufactured to meet CSA standards. We can
and have been supplying these larger AT30 battery charger models to our
customers.
The CSA-NRTL/C listing is widely accepted by utilities
across all of North America. CSA's OSHA-recognized
NRTL (National Recognized Testing Laboratory) certification is accepted
in virtually all USA jurisdictions as equivalent to UL listing.
The CSA-NRTL/C listing certifies the AT30 Series Battery Chargers to
both UL
1012 (Power
Supplies) and UL
1564
(Industrial Battery Chargers). The entire line of AT10.1 Series
Battery Chargers received similar CSA-NRTL/C
certification back in July of 2004.
Introduced to the market in April 2004, the feature-rich AT30 is a microprocessor controlled SCR
battery charger that combines versatility and reliability in a performance engineered modular
construction. It is designed to operate in a variety of DC power applications.

"Can-Do" Attitude Aids Gulf Coast Reconstruction
The Friday after
hurricane Katrina devastated southern Louisiana, Mississippi and
Alabama, HindlePower began receiving hot-rush orders to replace battery chargers
in the affected areas. Our "made-to-order" chargers were
immediately in high demand. Normal lead times of weeks turned into hours.
Our way to assist our fellow Americans was to produce product in an
expeditious
manner, while maintaining the highest quality. Not one customer was turned away.
On Friday, September 30 at 11:00 AM, we received an order for five (5)
AT10.1 chargers to be shipped out that same day. The order was completed
that afternoon and delivered on Saturday the 1st, despite the fact that it was

We continue to receive orders on a daily basis to replace
battery chargers in the areas affected by hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
Our purchasing department has
increased inventory so we may continue to produce and ship these rush
orders on time. It is our intent to continue to provide great customer service
and meet immediate demands. We get a great sense of satisfaction helping others.
HindlePower is here to support you and your needs, no matter how critical the situation may be.

Improves Reliability of its Popular AT10.1 Product
HindlePower, Inc., has upgraded the RECTIFIER ASSEMBLY in their hugely popular AT10.1 Group I
product line. The
new rectifier assembly has been redesigned and is now made up of only
12 components (vs. over 80 pieces in the old rectifier). The tighter
construction of the rectifier increases the reliability of the AT10.1

is snapped onto the heatsink. The heatsink is now isolated from the
main power which not only will increase the lifespan of the rectifier,
but will also improve the safety of the charger.
Bill Hindle, president, remarked, “HindlePower is on the leading edge of
technological enhancements, and we are always looking for ways to make
our products more reliable and safer. This new design improves the

charger is the most widely sold and most dependable microprocessor
controlled charger in the industry. This upgrade will assure our

Transit Battery Charging System Released
HindlePower's
Transit
Battery Charging System (TBC) is an advanced charging system
designed to safely recharge 12-Volt batteries used in Bus Depot
applications. The system consists of a main charging module rated at a
nominal 12 Volts DC and 200 Amperes with separate individual charging
stations that will typically accommodate up to four batteries per station.
These charging stations can be built in custom sizes ranging from one
through six batteries per station. Several stations may be linked to a
single charger so that many batteries or just one battery may be charged
simultaneously. For more information please access our sales brochure (JF5023-00).

AT10.1 Communication
Board nears DNP3 Level 2 and MODBUS Certification
HindlePower
Incorporated, a leading manufacturer of stationary battery chargers,
announces the release of a major new option: a serial communications
plug-in board for the widely used MODBUS and DNP3 protocols. The new
board is compatible with all currently produced AT10.1 Battery
Charger/Rectifier products, from 6Adc output to 100Adc output.
MODBUS and DNP3 are
serial communications protocols commonly used in the electric utility
and other industries for remote monitoring of power generation,
transmission and distribution, and process control parameters. The new
HindlePower board enables utilities, for the first time, to include the
battery charger and dc power bus in the measurements monitored by their
SCADA systems. Using the serial protocols, utilities can monitor
virtually every parameter in the charger, and can remotely adjust float
and equalize voltages, set timers, and control the operating mode of the
charger.
Owners of older AT10
Charger/Rectifiers aren't left out in the cold, either. HindlePower
president Bill Hindle said, "We want to make sure we offer our
customers superior service. The communication board is only compatible
with the current AT10.1 model, but owners of older AT10s can upgrade
their main control boards free when they buy the communication add-on.
For a nominal fee, they can even send the entire charger back to the
factory for a complete upgrade."
For those users who
don't yet use MODBUS or DNP3, HindlePower also offers relay contact
monitoring of critical charger and dc bus parameters, using the AT10.1
Auxiliary Relay Board. This board provides relay contact transfers to
warn of such conditions as high or low dc voltage, ground faults, etc.
The AT10.1
communication board will be available for shipment the second quarter of
2003.
